Winter 2025 Key Events

January:

• Sunday, January 19 – Meeting for Worship with a Concern for Business. 
  • Meeting begins at rise of meeting, approximately 12:00 Noon.

February:

• Sunday, February 2nd – Quarterly Meeting
  • Taking place in Poughkeepsie
    • Oakwood Friends School, Campus (main building)
      • 22 Spackenkill Rd, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603
  • Worship begins at 10:00am. (Main Building) Look for the signs. Enter the side/north door (next to the patio) of the main building.
  • Lunch at 11:30am in the dining room.
  • Business meeting and program beings by 12:30pm
    • The main program is about Corey Devon Arthur incarcerated at Otisville Correctional since 1998. He is a published writer, an artist and an at large member of NYYM. He loves nothing more than connecting people through his art from behind prison walls. He offers his spiritual community a collection of Quaker portraits and invites us to gather to share reflections and stories inspired by these paintings. This program will be facilitated by Judy Meikle of Wilton Meeting.
• Sunday,February 9th – Spiritual Reading Group 9:15am-10:15am
  • Topic: Two Chapters from the text, ‘The Game of Life and How to Play It’
    • The Power of the Word
    • The Law of Karma and the Law of Forgiveness
  • There is an additional document with a Wiki Introduction to the Author Florence Shovel Shinn

• Saturday, February 15th through February 23rd – Art Exhibit at Cornwall Meeting showing the work of Corey Devon Arthur
  • The artwork will be on display throughout this time, available for public viewing of this art will take place on these dates and times.

Events Outside of Quaker Friends

March:

• Friday, February 28th & Saturday, March 1st – NYYM Meeting for Discernment – Winter 2025 
  • Friday, February 28, 7:00pm – 8:30pm via Zoom:
    • Orientation and preparation
      The first half-hour will be an opportunity for Friends new to the meeting for discernment to learn about the meetings for discernment. Beginning at 7:30, the focus will change to those Friends interested in holding the body throughout the meetings for discernment sessions. Friends will share their experiences of eldership and prepare for Saturday’s sessions. All are invited to attend as much or as little of the evening as is right for them.
  • Saturday, March 1st. – via Zoom:
    • The Meetings for Discernment will be in three sessions online via Zoom on:
    • 9:00am – 11:30am: First Session
      • In this session, we will have extended worship on the query above.
    • 1:00pm – 3:30pm: Second Session
      • In this session, we will have extended worship on the query above.
    • 4 – 5:30 pm: Reflection Session
      • In the reflection session, we will consider what we heard and/or experienced during the first two sessions earlier in the day.
